Program

.

Completing a two year renovation and addition to a 1951 vocational education building, phase two of the Alabama Rural Heritage Center creates circulation through the building and adds many needed spaces for the foundation. Many interior walls were removed to open up interior spaces to keep them as flexible as possible for the changing needs of the center. Additional space includes a vegetable cleaning operation, storage and packaging room, additional meeting space, and a stage for the center’s annual ‘Rural Fun Day.’  Phase two also completed a pavilion which opened up more outdoor spaces, and can serve as a terrace for a future café. One of the most significant portions of the project include the addition of a 25-foot high sign and wall on the front of the building which will increase its street presence from the highway and allow it to stand equal with a neighboring three story high school. Extensive earthmoving and terracing help to create parking, a street edge and tie the entire building into the site.
